In-Depth Weapons Review: Automat Kalashnikov AK-47 (Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War)

If it isn't the hype beast of the battlefield. That's right, comrades. Today I will be discussing the one and only, critically memed, AK-47. This weapon is what made the internet blew up with tons of slavic memes. From this:

To this:
This weapon was designed between 1946-1948 by Mikhail Kalashnikov and has been produced since 1948 till present day. The weapon saw its first service since 1949 and is still at service till present day. It's mostly featured in Cold War themed video games and movies such as the Call of Duty Black Ops mini-franchise and the Rambo movie trilogy. This weapon can sometimes also be seen in modern themed video games and movies such as the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare mini franchise and the drama movie: Tears of the Sun.

The AK-47 can be unlocked at level 7 and can be upgraded up to level 55. This weapon comes with a full-auto option that allows you to fire bullets simultaneously without having to press the trigger multiple times. This weapon however, does not perform well in the terms of mobility and recoil control.

Accuracy & Control

As a base weapon, the AK is not very good at recoil control. The recoil kicks upwards, then to the left, but then it curves to the right. The aiming stability is not too bad for this weapon and its hip fire spread is not too bad either. Back to this weapon's recoil, it's the same recoil pattern for every time you fire the weapon. So don't worry, the recoil won't shift by itself just to throw you off your target.

    Recoil pattern:

Damage, Bullet Velocity, and Fire Rate

The AK-47 deals quite a decent damage of 38 up close and then it drops to 30 over ranges. keep in mind that there are no body multipliers for this weapon. Headshot multiplier for this weapon is decent at 1.4x giving this weapon a 53 headshot damage up close and drops to 42 over range. For the bullet velocity, this weapon has the slowest bullet velocity of all ARs in the Black Ops Cold War lineup at 490m/s. For the fire rate, this weapon fires full-auto at 600 RPM.

Mobility and Reload Times

Time for the ADS. This gun has a decent ADS speed at 300ms, having one of the slowest ADS speed for ARs in-game. Sprintout time for this weapon is stated to be 400ms, however, TheXclusiveAce tried it and it turned out to be 250ms which is not too bad for an AR. Movement speed is at 10.26mph (95%) for the base movement, 15.39mph (143%) for the sprinting movement, 4.06mph (37.5%) for the ADS movement speed. Base reload time for this weapon is at 1.32s (making it the fastest base reload speed in the AR class) and the fastest reload speed is at 0.87s with the VDV 50 Round Fast Mag and the slowest reload time is at 1.47s with the 40 Round mags, Bakelite 50 Round Mags, and, surprisingly, the taped mags.

Best Class Setup

Time to unleash this weapon's inner slavic power! This is the setup I recommend for the AK-47:

Muzzle: GRU Suppressor
Barrel: 18.2" Takedown
Underbarrel: Spetsnaz Grip
Ammunition: GRU Mag Clamp
Rear Grip: Spetsnaz Field Grip
Optic (optional, but you will have to remove the Rear Grip attachment): Microflex LED

This is a setup that I find quite comfortable as this gives the required range and mobility for mid range combat, as long as you don't use the Microflex LED. The Microflex LED reflex/red dot sight is useful if you are not comfortable with using the factory issue AK-47 iron sights. GRU suppressor basically gives the exact same benefits as the Agency suppressor. The GRU Mag Clamp however, only gives you 30 rounds to shoot enemies with a faster reload speed. This won't be useful for further mid range combats, but will still be useful for closer mid range combats.

Well, I guess that is all for today, I hope you liked it and if you do leave a comment. I'll see you in the next in-depth weapons review. Until next time! Do svidaniya tovarishchi (Goodbye Comrades)!
